Position Summary

The SCADA Specialist is responsible for SCADA system Design, implementation, upgrade, integration, operation, support and maintenance activities that include scripting (data analysis, display development, database configuration, point and loop check verification, report development and documentation). Responsibilities also include managing the daily operations of the Brazos Communications hardware, software systems, related process control systems, peripherals to ensure reliable communications and operations 

Job Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand Brazos Midstream’s Safety Policies and Procedures and Business Ethics Policies. Plan and perform all assignments in a safe manner by utilizing the proper tools, safety and environmental precautions, permitting, and Process Safety Management, and have a basic knowledge of the effect his work will have on his co-workers and the plant and field operations.
  • Have a solid understanding and application experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) to include the following: Knowledge of IEC-63111-3 programming languages specifically ladder logic, downloading and uploading programs, online edits, and troubleshooting logic.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, displays, templates and tools for the SCADA Systems (both local and back-office)
  • Work closely with Operations, Measurement, Scheduling, Revenue Accounting and Commercial to ensure the SCADA System is developed to established standards & Operational needs.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and quality of the displays & data serving internal and external stakeholders i.e. Scheduling, Field Operations, Measurement, Business groups, Mobile device displatys etc.
  • Responsible for the technical integrity and efficiency of the delivered solution including but not limited to: Ignition (Vision & Perspective), AWS Chime Voice Alarming, AutoSOL ACM, Tosi-Box OT VPN network, Starlink Satellite Communications, Raven Cellular Modems, Freewave Radio, Ubiquiti Radio and any other SCADA solution required.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot and correct control system wiring for transmitters, switch devices, and PLC output commands to an array of control devices.
  • Become familiar with the Ignition SCADA system and learn to setup and configure derived instances for new systems being brought online.
  • Evaluate piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), control panel and junction box diagrams, process flow diagrams and electrical one-lines.
  • Strong knowledge and skilled in EtherNet I/P and Serial Radio installation and configuration.
  • Have solid knowledge of electrical theory and controls for low to medium voltage systems. Be able to troubleshoot problems related to control systems rated at 120 VAC and less.
  • Be familiar with NEC code and API code regulations regarding area classification and requirements for electrical components located within classified areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years work related experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Design/analysis experience in telecommunication design
  • Design/analysis experience with software SCADA systems (Ignition Certification preferred)
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision
  • Solid computer skills to include Microsoft Office Software
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Must allow pre-employment and MVR background checks 

Preferred Qualifications

  • SCADA Systems Design Engineering with 5+ years’ experience
  • Degree Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • An understanding of the Natural Gas/Liquids pipeline operation and equipment (PLC/EFM/HMI)
  • Experience with AutoSOL, Ignition, VTScada, Allen-Bradley, Crimson Red-Lion, Ubiquiti & Freewave.
  • Strong scripting knowledge using C++, VBScript, .net framework
  • Experience with data/RF wired/wireless network architectures and associated protocols i.e. TCP/UDP/IP, SNMP, etc.
  • Experience with Network Routers/Switches/Firewalls and associated protocols.
  • Strong working knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities for DCS/PLC, SCADA including HMI, RTUs - TotalFlow, Emerson Roc and associated protocols. PLCs – Allen Bradley and associated protocols (SLC, CIP, SRTP, MODBUS, etc.). 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to frequently throughout the work shift, push, pull and lift at least a minimum of 50lbs to a minimum height of 3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs and platforms at varying heights
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, FR clothing)
  • Regular and reliable attendance
